National MOTTEP® sites are delivering the message of health promotion and disease prevention across the country and addressing the diseases and behaviors which lead to the need for transplantation, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, alcohol and substance abuse, poor nutrition and lack of exercise.

Tips For A Healthier Lifestyle

Have your blood pressure checked at least twice per year after age 12
Diabetics should have blood pressure checked regularly and follow diet and exercise instructions
Avoid alcoholic beverages to help prevent liver disease
Avoid use of illegal drugs such as marijuana, herion and cocaine which cause liver disease and kidney failure
Avoid smoking cigarettes which can lead to heart and lung disease
Avoid foods high in cholesterol and saturated fats such as fried foods which can clog the arteries
Establish a regular exercise routine which should be performed at least three times per week
Visit your doctor at least once per year for a check-up

Dietary Tips

Learn to read nutrition labels
Reduce fat to just 25 % of *caloric intake per day
Cut back on sugar, jellies, cookies
Eat small meals
Eat more fruits and vegetables, especially raw, to clean the colon area
Bake, broil or boil meats
Drink more water
Eliminate salt from diet, substitute herbs and spices
Remove skin from poultry
Eat more whole grains, breads and cereals
